Statues represent Chiang's fall from graceThose of us who have a connection with Taiwan going back many years with recall how the people of Taiwan were too frightened of Chiang Kai-shek to even say his name out loud. It is thus not surprising that the many statues of the Genealissimo were removed when he fell from grace. But happily -- I think -- many statues were not destroyed but moved to this fascinating sculpture park. I have no idea how many statues the park holds, hundreds, maybe thousands. It's a good place to stroll and reflect just how far Taiwan has come since the "Old President" left us. By the way, entry is gratis.
Very Nice ParkThis is the Cihu Sculpture Park which runs next to the Cihu Lake. The Park is peppered with statues of the late Chiang Kai-shek. There are hundreds of them big and small. The park itself is well maintained and beautifully adorn with flowers. Little streams run through the park. A great place to enjoy the fresh air and snap lots of photos.
Statue everywhereThis place is more leisure place, if have time go for a walk is okay. Not very recommended to go if your trips is short, the only thing worth to see here is the memorial. By the way is free entry.

Legacy of the ChiangThere are hundreds or thousands of President Chiang’s statutes in schools or public buildings all over Taiwan. Many of these have been removed or destroyed. Some of these have been donated or relocated to this park.
Resting place for Chiang Kai-shek statuesDuring the rule of President Chiang Kai-shek (1928-1975) and his son President Chiang Ching-kuo (1978-1988) statues of these rulers abounded. After Taiwan's democratisation, many people showed their resentment of the Chiangs' authoritarian rule by vandalising the statues. So, they were collected and installed at the Cihu Memorial Sculpture Park. I am glad that the statues were not simply discarded, they make an interesting display. As for Chiang Ching-kuo, he put Taiwan on the road to democracy and deserves respect for that. Cihu is not far from Taoyuan City.
