When talking of the Plum Blossom Festival at Jiaobanshan Residence, most people think of the plum flowers that are as white as snowflakes. The Jiaobanshan Residence is the largest plum garden in northern Taiwan. Among the 296 plum trees planted there, the oldest one was planted in 1961, making them a significant witness to local history. To celebrate the grandeur of the plum blossoms, the Festival is held annually. This year marked the eighth year of the Jiaobanshan Plum Blossom Festival.

This year’s event had planned a great variety of contents. There was a tea ceremony as well as performances played by traditional musical instruments (e.g., pipa, guzheng, and shamisen). Visitors were able to enjoy a nice cup of tea while appreciating the plum blossoms and live Chinese music. There was also a handicrafts workshop where visitors created their own souvenirs, such as bamboo cicadas, hand-painted pinwheels, bangles, and beaded bracelets with plum blossoms. Last but not least, several local calligraphers were invited to paint Spring Festival couplets on the spot for visitors to take home for free.
