Northern-Cross Cherry Blossom Season

The most anticipated spring agenda is definitely cherry blossom viewing. The section between the sacred tree and Lalashan on Taoyuan County Road No.116 blooms in a sea of flamboyant Taiwan cherry blossoms, pale pink Fuji cherry blossoms, and snow-white Wushe cherry blossoms. Adorned beautifully, the green mountain area is immersed in a romantic spring ambience.

In addition to cherry blossom viewing, Northern-Cross Cherry Blossom Season also calls to motivated bicyclists with the northern-cross cycling challenge. Participants can win a certificate after they complete the challenging ride amidst the lovely spring vibe.

Fringe Tree Blossom

Nicknamed April Snow, fringe trees burst into fringe-like white blooms in spring. The best places to admire the snow-white wonder are Hutoushan Park and Shihmen Grand Lawn. While floral enthusiasts and photographers are drawn to this elegantly fragrant bloom, a nice picnic amidst the April Snow is also widely popular.

Calla Lily Festival

The arrival of April marks the start of Taoyuan’s colorful Calla Lily Festival! Extending across the field is a sea of thousands of crimson, orange, golden yellow and pastel white calla lilies. The fun land arts that echo the theme of each year’s festival are also popular photo spots among tourists.

In addition to calla lilies, there are also plenty of lilies and golden queens in full bloom. The farmer’s market there is also a great opportunity for visitors to learn about local agriculture. Calla lily picking and calla lily soap DIY are fun hands-on activities that visitors can take part in and create wonderful memories.

Dull ice flower

Longtan is the first district in Taiwan dedicated to the cultivation of dull ice flowers. It is also part of Taoyuan Hakka Village. Golden dull ice flowers are the first to bloom in early spring, and violet and white dull ice flowers follow. The popping colors adorn the vast tea farm, adding more natural glamor to the land!

Dull ice flower is commonly used in traditional Hakka lifestyle. After the blooming season, the flowers are plowed and mixed into the soil and become nutrients for farmlands, which symbolizes the unconditional love of a mother to her offspring. Therefore, dull ice flower is also referred to as Hakka Mother Flower with an important cultural reference. Dull ice flower is also the title of a renowned Taiwanese movie debuted in early days.

Tung Blossom Season

When spring meets summer, the mountains in Taoyuan turn white with blooming Tung flowers as if it were snowcapped. That’s why Tung flowers are also known as May Snow.

Tung trees used to be an indispensable economic crop of Hakka people. As time goes by, Tung blossoms have become the symbol of the persevering Hakka spirit.

There are a wide range of recommended things to do during Tung blossom season. Visitors may enjoy touring the agricultural villages, taste Hakka delicacies, hike Zhaiming Temple Historic Trail and Xiaocukeng Historic Trail while taking in the romantic scenery of May Snow.

In early summer, Guanyin District in Taoyuan is where you will find extending fields of flourishing lotuses. The elegant lotuses swinging amidst summer breeze above giant leaves on water create a picturesque scenery that draws numerous photographers to linger.

Guanyin District is one of the main lotus farms in Taiwan. It is also a great summer outing destination where visitors can taste some lotus seed shaved ice, lotus meals and even have some lotus coffee. The most popular activity of course is to sit on one of the gigantic leaves of Victoria water lilies!

The arrival of autumn is marked with golden and flaming-red maple leaves at Shihmen Reservoir as well as the mountains of the northern cross area.

Recommended itineraries for travelers to take in the colorful scenery of maples include a stroll around Shihmen Reservoir, a foodie exploration at Daxi Old Street and a road trip via the Northern Cross-Island Highway.

In late autumn towards winter, Hutoushan mountain is covered with blooming silver grass. Walking along the hiking trail feels like surfing in a sea of majestic silver waves between valleys. The silver sea is even more spectacular under orange sunset hues. Visitors can also enjoy a spectacular overlook of Taoyuan City from atop the hiking trail.

Taoyuan Flower Festival is definitely the most anticipated floral event in Taiwan in the second half of a year. During autumn and winter, the two seasons in which commercial cultivation is suspended, Taoyuan City blooms in a sea of dreamy purple mesonas and vibrantly colored cosmos. Each year the festival features different installation arts that transforms the farmland into a top-rated tourist attraction.

Bade Bald Cypress Forest

Bade Bald Cypress Forest

Bald cypress has been trending virally in Taiwan in recent years. Upon the arrival of winter, the 3-harcter forest consisting of green cypresses slowly turns into different shades of red, presenting a natural masterpiece of art. There is a dam that creates an extra exotic ambience alongside the beautifully colored cypresses.

In mid-summer, the lush green bald cypress forest is accompanied by a pond of blooming lotuses. Undeniably, Bade Bald Cypress Forest is worth visiting for the varied scenery throughout the year.

Take Taoyuan Bus No.5098 at the rear station of Zhongli Railway Station. Alight at Dashequ stop and walk for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Reminder:

Divers are advised to park their cars on Longnan Road. It is only 5 to 10 minutes in walking distance.

Jiaobanshan Plum Blossom Season

Jiaobanshan Plum Blossom Season

Jiaobanshan Plum Blossom Season is the highlight of winter times. Boasting the largest plum garden in Taiwan, Jiaobanshan Residence is a prime picnic spot for plum blossom viewing.

The spacious plum garden turns white as tiny plum blossoms on sharp, curved twigs flourish. The astonishing blossoms are not the only highlight of plum blossom season. There are also grassland games, plum themed dining and other fun experiences visitors can take part in.

    The location of Sun & Green is slightly remote. Visitors are advised to take a taxi. The taxi ride to Sun & Green from HSR Taoyuan Station is about 20 minutes and costs about NT$450. The taxi ride to Sun & Green from Taoyuan Airport is about 30 minutes and costs about NT$600.
