Xiao Wulai Scenic Area (小烏來風景特定區)
Updated:2020-03-24
Popularity: 10.3k
Feature
-
Skywalk
The Skywalk is designed with minimalism using a lineal arrangement, while the bottom is made of tempered glass. The 11-meter-long transparent sky corridor stretches to the source of Xiao Wulai Waterfall. You only need to stand on the glass platform 70 meters above the bottom of the waterfall to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Xiao Wulai Valley from above, as well as the magnificent waterfall.
-
Sky Rope Bridge
The Sky Rope Bridge spans 70 meters and is 50 meters above ground; it is one of the longest rope bridges in Taiwan. Its special structure makes it capable of holding 120 tons. Differing from ordinary suspension bridges which use main cables to hang, the rope bridge has its deck bottom fastened to steel cables, making it look as if it is floating in the air. Because of this, walking on this bridge is extra exciting.
-
Panoramic Lookout
The visually boundless 360-degree sky-high panoramic lookout allows visitors to view Xiao Wulai Waterfall, Luofu Fluvial Terrace, the meandering landform of Dahan River, and the Luofu’s double bridges. This is a perfect place for enjoying the geological landscape of Xiao Wulai and the sky in the night. With the telescopes at the lookout, you can observe the geological stratification, structure, and the details of the waterfall. It is a suitable place in Xiao Wulai for environmental education.
-
Yixing Suspension Bridge
Built in 1966, it is the only pipe bridge in Taoyuan. The bridge is 200 meters long, and 70 meters above the riverbed of Dahan river (approximately 15 floors). It was once a shooting spot for the rainbow bridge in the movie Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale. When walking on the bridge, you will feel a refreshing breeze and see the magnificent view of the Dahan Valley on both sides. With the blue sky, white clouds, and green river, walking on the bridge is a soothing and relaxing experience.
-
Water Ditch Ancient Trail
The Water Ditch Ancient Trail has witnessed how the locals in the past drank the water and irrigated the fields as well as how they farmed on the terraces, giving an important account of history.
-
Wind-Rolling Stone
The Wind-Rolling Stone is also called “Ghost Stone” or “Balancing Stone.” However, in July 2013, the Wind-Rolling Stone could not withstand the 13-degree Typhoon Soulik and fell onto the stream bed. Yet, this giant stone still attracts many eyes.

Nice scenery, great view
There really isn't much things to do in Taoyuan, so I would recommend coming here to take a walk away from the hustle and bustle of the city areas. There are hiking trails around here if you're feeling adventurous as well, the roads are not paved though, most of the people went for the general trail, and we did that as well, but we saw paths leading upwards to the top of the hill, so you can give it a try if you're into hiking. There's the Sky Walk to take a look while standing on top of glasses, and you can look out underneath you. Be warned though that you can clearly feel the tremor of the whole bridge shaking when people are walking, and the bridge is quite short, it's quite instagram-mable but aside from that most of the people didn't stay for longer than 10 minutes as it's just shortly extended from the edge. After you took a roundabout walk around the general trail, there is a store that is just at the entrance that sells iced mango shake drink, it's a must try as it's quite famous around there, so remember to stop for 1 after your walk around here!DavidFamily000

Beautiful waterfalls
Great experience walking on the bridge of Sky Walk in Xiaowulai, it can have a better feel on top of the waterfall. Short trekking on the mountain while walking back to entrance. Good location for a short visit.Sandy L

Relaxing day outside of busy taipei
The entire time i'm here it's scheduled to shower. So, my plans have changed and i'm pretty much based in Taipei. I went there on a weekday as advised. Like anywhere else, this is to avoid the massive crowds. The trip from Taipei was abig long. Upon arrival you can walk up the Old Street and continue upward to the waterfall. Most vendors were not open, even by the time I was leaving, around 4 or 5pm. The walk to the waterfall is fine. I did this in April. The cable car was open, but I did not realize this, b/c I didn't hear/see until when I was about to leave. I continued upward to the suspension bridge, and onward through the forested area. it was very relaxing. The sound of the water flowing was very therapeutic. I continued to Neidong Natl park, but unfortunately that was closed. I do suggest going early and enjoying a hot springs session afterwards. I wanted to do this, but was too tired and needed to get back into town. I opted to walk on this visit, but many ppl just cab it up to the viewing area of the waterfall and continue onward on a cable car to get excellent shots, esp on a clear day.paulhQ4371VQ

Fantastic waterfalls
Great location to visit if you want to experience a bit of nature. The area has some nice waterfalls and also a commercial area where you can have a meal or buy some food for a picnic. Like many places, it gets crowded here on weekends, so I'd suggest a visit during the week.
